Menswear Collection at KL Fashion Week RTW 2016: Day 2 - CMDI
CMDI (previously known as The Comoddity) needed no introduction. Winner of last year's best menswear designer at KL Fashion Week 2015, they are one of the label I'd always lookout during fashion week.
Perhaps, nature is the theme with strong presence of a stylized Bunga Terung - a tattooing symbol for the Sarawakian Iban men, representing wisdom and masculinity. Playing with textures, embroidery and prints, models came down the runway with twigs and without footwear, probably to enhance the effect of being one with the nature.
Update Aug 21, 2016:
As seen on CMDI website, here's what they have to say about the collection:
"221BC offers the thematic inspiration of the legendary Headhunter Dayak tribe of Sarawak, Malaysia for Spring Summer 2017, "Off With Your Head". Intertwining the Dayak Folklore motive into the collection, the "Bunga Terung" which translates to eggplant flower, is the first tattoo a Borneo male would receive, usually on the shoulders. The Bunga Terung is a coming of age tattoo which marks the passage of a boy into manhood. Like a diary, every "bunga terung" tattoo marks not only where he is from but where he has been.
Adopting a monotone palette in hues of blues and grey, permitting the accents of denim fringe, "bunga terung" embroidery and metal to stand stark against the silhoette of this collection."
